Decks

We have designed and built many decks over the past 40 years and are knowledgeable about the construction details that result in longer deck life.

We often use cedar, but have, when appropriate, integrated materials such as concrete, red wood, pressure treated hemlock, composite decking and Gaco.

 Canopies

In Oregon, these are very useful additions to most any deck. Canopies can make your outdoor space usable in a variety of weather conditions and preserve the life of your deck.

Canopies come in different shapes, materials and price ranges. Many are permanent. Some retract when not in use.

A significant number of our projects are projects where we are increasing the livable square footage of homes by remodeling basements. Our team has significant experience in converting these areas by adding egress windows and basement stairs that meet city code. We design and build basement bathrooms that are functional, code compliant and meet the design tastes of the home owner.

Seismic Upgrades

The city of Portland is located in a active seismic location. The city of Portland has an seismic upgrade program, allowing home owners to upgrade their home to the seismic standards that the city has formulated for this seismic area. The Careful Remodelers, Inc. have done many seismic upgrades over the years according to these standards. We can help home owners make these upgrades with the necessary permits and inspections.

Bathrooms

We are design build remodelers. Our designer will listen to your concerns and ideas for improvement and then suggest ways to do and also suggest alternatives to consider. Once the design has been finalized The Careful Remodelers, Inc. will be able to draw the plans, request the necessary permits and complete the work according to the design in partnership with our plumbing and electrical sub contractors.

Aging in Place

 Many of our clients have expressed a desire to remain in their home as long as possible. As their mobility, lifestyle needs and preferences change with age, we help them select appropriate features to make their home safe and comfortable. For example, clients who develop stiff joints or back problems may benefit by switching from a bath tub to a walk-in soaker tub or even a low lip shower in some cases. We discuss the pros and cons of the different options and determine how the preferred option might be configured within the space available. Once a selection has been made, we then arrange for its installation.

Kitchens

For complete kitchen remodels we typically evaluate a clients needs identify budget and layout constraints, incorporate taste and preferences and then present a variety of options all of which integrate good design principles. A plan is then selected and developed with further client input.

Given the climate of the Pacific Northwest, our team encounters dry rot and mold on a very frequent basis. We have many years of experience and expertise in removing dry rot and mold that takes the home owners budget into consideration when encountering these unforeseen events.

Our employees are trained and certified to do lead paint abatement in the Portland Area.

Stairs

Need Stairs? Your options might be more varied than you think. There are several code-approved structures to traverse slopes. These include: straight stairways, platform stairs, winder stairs with landings, spiral stairs, straight ramps, winder ramps. We’ve built and installed them all!

When these structures rise more than 24 inches above the ground, handrails are required.
